IBM MAKES CHILD'S PLAY OF JAVA
http://www.as400network.com/nwn/story.cfm?ID=11169

Although Java is the fastest-growing computer language out there
these days, only about 10 percent of iSeries-AS/400 customers have
learned it. That may change as more RPG programmers catch word of a
new computer game, Robocode, available for free download from the
IBM alphaWorks site, that teaches you Java programming while you
create virtual "robots" that can go to battle with other
developers' creations in cyberspace. As you assemble your robot,
you'll learn a few tricks of the Java programming trade, such as
Java syntax, event handling, and the creation of classes. The game
walks you through the creation of a new robot that uses methods
such as ahead(100), turnLeft(90), and fire(1) to interact with the
game. Although several of the folks who've already downloaded
Robocode give it high marks, it's still a work in progress and
needs more complete documentation, a pure Java installer, a method
for uploading your robot and downloading robots that other players
have created, and changes to key APIs. Robocode was built using
VisualAge for Java 3.5 and uses a custom security manager that lets
any custom Java class run safely on your system. Robocode runs on
Windows and Linux, although the Linux version is still a bit buggy.
You'll need a Pentium II processor or its equivalent, at least 64
MB of RAM, and approximately 10 MB of free disk space. For more
information, see: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/robocode
